Forty years ago a new launch, the Luzeiro, slide down the ways into the Amazon, greatest of rivers. For the next twenty-eight years Leo B Halliwell and his wife sailed the Luzeiro and its successors up and down the liquid highways of the tropics bringing medical care and spiritual aid to dwellers along the banks. They struggled against innumerable foes and dangers. They fought malaria, hookworm, yaws, kala azar, leprosy and tropical ulcers. They saved numerous snakebite victims. The halliwell story is one of the greatest missionary biographies in the history of Seventh-day Adventism.
